Lt. Gov. Brian Calley

The Michigan lt. gov has announced that he is spearheading a ballot question committee to dramatically change the political culture of Lansing: “Brian Calley’s Clean MI Government initiative is a proposed amendment to the state constitution to switch to a part time legislature, slash legislators’ pay, and cut legislator benefits and pensions.”

Money quote: “It is time to amend the Michigan state constitution to switch from a full-time to a part-time state legislature. This will save tax dollars by cutting legislators’ pay and give them more time to live and work back home under the laws they pass.”

Here’s more from today’s press conference, held at Mackinac Island. Michigan, by the way, is only one of nine states with a full-time legislature.
