Bergman Donates “Shutdown Salary” to Charity

GOP Congressman Jack Bergman, MI-01, had this to say about border security and the partial shutdown of the federal government:

“One of the main priorities of Congress is to fund the federal government and prioritize our national security, yet Democrats are refusing to come to the negotiating table to do just that. I support President Trump in this fight for border security because there is no greater responsibility than protecting the American people.

As negotiations continue, I’ll be donating my salary to local charity organizations in Michigan’s First District. If Congress fails to do its job resulting in a shutdown, then we should forfeit our pay as well. American citizens sent us to Washington to solve problems, not cause them. If we can’t do that, we don’t deserve to get paid.”

Rep. Bergman Speaks about Alexandria Shooting

Congressman Jack Bergman, northern Michigan’s congressman and an athlete, was on the baseball field in northern Virginia, yesterday morning, when a lone gunman randomly shot at those playing (all high-powered GOP representatives, staffers and lobbyists) on the field. The group was practicing for an annual charity baseball game.

According the CNN,  “Five people were injured in the shooting that has left Majority Whip Steve Scalise in critical condition. The shooter, James Hodgkinson, 66, of Belleville, Illinois died following a shootout with authorities.”

Here’s Rep. Bergman doing one of many media interviews about the horrific incident. Thankfully, the Capitol Police took down Hodgkinson, an individual with a long record of unsavory behavior who hated Republicans, and saved innocent lives. Props also to the First Responders who took care of the wounded.
